Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States later today.
Around 1 thousand people are expected to be at the inauguration in Washington DC – significantly lower than at previous ceremonies.
The inauguration is expected to begin around 5pm Irish time, while Vice-President Kamala Harris will be sworn in just before that.
The President of the European Commission has welcomed Joe Biden’s inauguration, saying Europe ‘has a friend’ in the White House.
Some European leaders have had a strained relationship with Donald Trump over the last 4 years.
Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen says they’re looking forward to the new administration taking over.
