Cancun is offering to pay half of your hotel stay if you visit there this year.

The Mexican city has launched a new initiative to try and drive tourists back into the area after Covid-19 restrictions. The campaign includes free hotel stays as well as massive discounts on things like meals, car rentals, entry to theme parks, golf courses and spas.

The Mexican state of Quintana Roo, where Cancun is located, hopes to open to tourists between June 8th and 10th and the initiative, called #Come2MexicanCaribbean, kicks off on June 15th.

The Hotel Associations of Cancun, Puerto Morelos & Isla Mujeres, the Riviera Maya, Cozumel, and the Grand Costa Maya are behind the campaign. INSIDER report that a press release from them says that 200 businesses have already signed up and that the offers include two free nights for every two nights paid for by guests.

Other discounts are two free days of car rentals for every two days paid for, free stays for up to two children when two adults book, as well as up to 20% off at participating theme parks, golf courses, and spas. Anyone who books between June 15th and August 15th 2020 can avail of the discounts from the participating businesses.

Roberto Cintron, President of the Hotels Association of Cancun, Puerto Morelos & Isla Mujeres, said in a statement:

“Different hotel associations in our state, along with the tourist industry in general, are 100% committed participating in this campaign, and aim to reactivate travel to our destinations after the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic”.
