A study’s found a cold shower can relieve stress.


According to researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, cold water activates the sympathetic nervous system and increases beta-endorphin and noradrenaline in the brain. The latter is used in many anti-depressant medications.

Dr Nikolai Shevchuk discovered that people who take cold showers report improved mood, less stress and pain relief.

The recipe for a quick mood boost involves showering in cold water – around 20 degrees (a standard warm shower is 40 degrees) – for 2 to 3 minutes once or twice daily.


If that sounds too painful, try having your regular warm shower and turning it to cold for the last few seconds.
