The virus has spread from China to the US, Thailand, Taiwan and South Korea.
Chinese health officials are warning that the coronavirus is starting to mutate and spread around the world.
The illness has killed nine people so far and more than 400 cases have been diagnosed.
It’s thought the outbreak of the coronavirus began at a market with illegal wildlife in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
It can be passed from person to person and it has spread from China to the US, Thailand, Taiwan and South Korea.
Tarik Jasarevic from the World Health Organisation said they are closely monitoring the situation:
“We don’t know how many people are infected”.
“The more you test, the more you will find people who are infected. We don’t know if there are asymptomatic cases. If they are asymptomatic, are they contagious?”
“Testing is possible because China immediately shared the genetic sequence of the virus, and we have to give them credit for that”.
Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove outlined how you can protect yourself from the virus.
”The corona virus typically causes respiratory symptoms, we recommend basic hand hygiene such as washing your hand with soap and water”.
”And when you sneeze, cover your mouth with your hand and elbow”.
Dublin Airport says it has not received instructions from the Department of Health to put any special measures in place.
