Lots of bikes have been dragged out of the back of sheds and dusted down now that people have more time on their hands.

Families are taking advantage of the quieter roads and are heading out for spins together.

This is great for health both physical and mental but our County Councils have urged caution to both cyclists and motorists.

Galway County Council have given the following advice to those who are new to cycling.

  • Look well ahead for obstructions on the roads such as drains, pot-holes and parked vehicles so you don’t have to swerve suddenly to avoid them.
  • Leave plenty of room when passing parked vehicles and watch out for doors opening or pedestrians stepping out.

And for motorists they ask that they should ensure to give 1.5 metres when over-taking a cyclist.

Here is a quick video from Mayo County Council for all motorists. So if you are getting out and about this weekend, remember those tips and stay safe!
