There’ll be more patrols at public parks and popular attractions.

There will be extra garda checkpoints across the country this weekend, in order to support public health guidelines.

This new High Visibility Nationwide Policing Plan came into effect at 7am this morning and will run until midnight on Sunday.

As part of the campaign there will more checkpoints and patrols particularly at public parks and popular attractions.

It will work alongside Operation Fanacht and Operation Navigation, which both continue this weekend.

Officers will also be encouraging people to practice public health guidelines and say as a last resort they will be using enforcement where needed.

The aim of the High Visibilty Policing Plan is to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and clamp down on criminal activity.
