Rank and file Gardaí have called on the government to vaccinate them earlier in the wake of a violent protest in Dublin this weekend.

The anti-lockdown demonstration in Dublin has been widely condemned, and there calls for a further planned protest in Cork next week to be cancelled.

Gardaí have called for more resources to tackle these kinds of events.

Damien McCarthy from the Garda Representative Association says getting vaccinated is crucial.

“One thing must happen straight away – the Minister and Commissioner must agree that we are to be prioritised to be vaccinated.”

More than a dozen people have been charged with public order offences in relation to the Grafton Street protest.
