The alleged hijacking incident happened on the M18 motorway in Co. Galway last night.


Two men have been arrested in connection with the hijacking of a taxi in Galway last night.

Gardaí received a report last night that two men who were passengers in a taxi had attacked the driver and stolen his car.

The driver was forced out of the vehicle on the M18 motorway.

Officers spotted the taxi in Claregalway and put a containment operation in place, with assistance from the regional support unit.

They brought the car to a stop on Bothar na dTreabh, and two men ran from the scene.

Two men, aged in their twenties and thirties, were subsequently arrested.

They are being detained at North Western Regional Garda Headquarters in Co. Galway where they can be held for up to 24 hours.
