iRadio goes rallying!

We’ve had a busy weekend in the hills of Donegal.

After partnering up with young Donegal rally driver David Kelly, we were on the ditches witnessing one of the most iconic motorsport events on the island of Ireland.

26 year old Donegal Town man Kelly put in a solid weekend on the stages, which saw him work his way up from 13th place in the overall standings to an impressive 8th on Sunday evening in his Ford Fiesta R5.

Friday and Saturday’s stages saw David, and Dean O’Sullivan on the notes, put in a string of consistent times across some of the country’s trickiest stages.

The crew spent most of the weekend battling with Muff man Joe McGonigle, who lay just 16 seconds behind on Saturday evening, before a small off saw him drop away from Kelly in front.

It was in the opening stages of Sunday morning that changed everything at the top.

The first test was Gartan, which saw Callum Devine – who had led the rally since the very first stage – crash out of contention.

That left the lead open for Britain’s Matt Edwards, but he’d suffer a similar fate on the very next stage.

With Edwards now also out of the picture, a tight battle was brewing for the Donegal spoils between Monaghan’s Josh Moffett and Alastair Fisher, but a puncture for Fisher on the penultimate stage would drop him out of contention.

When all was said and done, the drama up ahead saw David and Dean inherit 8th place, and that’s where they’d remain as a frantic Sunday afternoon came to a close.
