A 23-year-old man from Northern Ireland has been arrested in connection with the deaths of 39 people found in a lorry in Essex.

He is currently detained on suspicion of conspiracy to traffic people and assist unlawful immigration.

His arrest comes after the bodies of 31 men and 8 women were found in the back of a lorry at an industrial estate in Grays in Essex on October 23rd.

The Vietnamese nationals were discovered after the vehicle arrived in the UK from Belgium.

The man was arrested in the early hours of this morning on the M40 in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.

Several other people have previously been arrested in connection with the investigation.

25-year-old Maurice Robinson, of Craigavon in Armagh, has been charged with a number of offences, including 39 counts of manslaughter.

Meanwhile, Essex Police are seeking the extradition of 22-year-old Eamon Harrison from Mayobridge in Down to the UK.
