Who needs Spain when ‘Costa del Ireland’ is open for business?

Well 2020, you may have ruined just about all of our plans thus far…but there’s one thing you can’t take away from us – our wine.

As the pandemic slowly destroyed travel plans and dreams of sitting out in beer gardens faded, our favourite wine companies were still by our side.

One such wine company that stood by us during lockdown is the Nude Wine Co.

And they want to offer a little helping hand to those who are currently missing out on their summer vacations, which is why they’ll be giving away their ‘July Staycation Box’ worth €95 completely free.

The box features wines from Nude Wine Co.’s favourite holiday destinations, including:

  • The Lyrarakis Assyrtiko from Crete, Greece.
  • A French Couple: The Liberty Nages Organic White and Red from Costieres de Nimes.
  • The Lajara Organic Prosecco from the Veneto, Italy.
  • A dry Grenache Rose from Vina Zorzal Rose, Navarre, Spain.
  • A Portuguese fruity red that can be served chilled.

And if you want to get your hands on this, simply keep an eye out for the competition appearing on our Facebook page this Friday!

Donegal or Northern Spain?

Our staycation spots.

And on a slightly separate note, the international flavour of Nude Wine Co.’s ‘July Staycation Box’ got us thinking…

With our travel plans in the mud, but the prospect of a staycation still a possibility - where are the spots within our own borders that stack up to the destinations featured in the wine box?

Here are our picks:

Crete, Greece = Co. Wexford:  It’s no secret that Crete is well known for its beaches and stunning natural scenery. But we think the beaches in Co. Wexford are just as beautiful, if not even better on a sunny day.

The Nîmes and the western Rhône delta, France = Kilkenny: The city of Nimes is a famous ancient city, just like Kilkenny and probably only a fraction of the craic (assuming the pubs will be open when you’re there).

The Veneto, Italy = Carlingford, Co. Louth: A beautiful mountain range and postcard ocean views… Both describe The Veneto and our own Carlingford in Co. Louth.

Navarre, Northern Spain = Co. Donegal: Stunning mountains, and rugged untouched wilderness… sounds a lot like our Donegal.

South East Portugal = Co. Clare: Just like Clare, South East Portugal is blessed with the stunning Atlantic coast. We can definitely make do with a day at the Cliffs of Moher or a trip to Lahinch or Doolin instead of boarding that plane to Portugal.
