A status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for 11 counties for 24 hours from tonight.

Met Eireann says heavy rain is being forecast for Connacht as well as Cavan, Longford, Louth, Meath, Monaghan and Westmeath.

The warning comes into place from 9 o clock tonight, until the same time tomorrow.

Tomorrow is expected to bring heavy outbreaks in the northern half of the country, where rain will be most persistent with a continued risk of localised flooding.

Rain will become more intermittent in the south tomorrow afternoon, but still with some heavier falls at times.
