Mayo County Council’s Road Safety Department is encouraging members of the public to attend its virtual road safety roadshow in association with AXA.

This hard-hitting show aims to encourage young people, from TY age in secondary school up, to become better drivers on the road.

It’s usually held in a large venue. However, within current public health guidelines, the show has been adapted to fit the times.

This year, the event is being held virtually on April 22nd at 11am. Young people and schools from all over the region are being urged to get involved.

Attendees will follow the story of one young man as he gets his driving licence and is subsequently involved in a serious road traffic accident that changes his life.

The audience then hears from the Gardaí, Fire Service, a paramedic and an A&E Consultant, about their involvement with members of the public involved in an RTA.

A crash survivor and a family member of a crash victim also speak candidly to the audience.

The roadshow has been held in Mayo since 2007, with thousands of young people being encouraged to keep on top of their driving behaviour and use the road responsibly over the years.
