Discussions are to take place to ensure the reopening of schools for children with special needs goes ahead.

The Irish National Teachers Organisation said it had “grave safety concerns” over plans for the reopening on Thursday.

The Department of Education is facing calls to reconsider its plan.

Labour’s Education spokesperson Aodhan O’Riordan says this is a very different discussion to the one had when schools opened in September.

He’s said the virus is ‘clearly out of control’.

But, he said there is still possibility for young people with special needs to get back into the classroom.
