A Garda investigation is underway.
An investigation is underway after thousands of sexual images of Irish women and girls were leaked online without their permission.
A lot of the images were obtained from apps like Snapchat, Tinder and OnlyFans.
It’s understood thousands of women are involved. There are concerns for the women who have yet to find out that their images are part of the leak.
A petition calling for revenge porn laws set up a number of months ago has been widely circulated since the incident. An online protest is also set to take place next week.
The reports have reached the top level of the Gardaí. The Assistant Commissioner for Organised and Serious Crime is carrying out enquiries into the matter.
The government has also said new laws tackling image based abuse and revenge porn will be in place by the end of the year.
