The green light’s been given by European Union leaders to make Ukraine and Moldova candidates for EU membership.

The decision was taken yesterday evening, ahead of an EU meeting in Brussels which continues today.

Ukraine still faces a long wait to become a full member, as the process is a lengthy one however Ukraine President, Volodymyr Zelensky said it was a ‘unique and historic moment’.

The country’s bid was given a quicker than usual review.

Georgia has also taken a step towards joining.

However it could be years before the nations become full members.
