Fianna Fáil’s Timmy Dooley and Niall Collins have been stood down from the party’s front bench over the Dáil votes controversy.

It’s after deputy Dooley was found to have voted on six matters in the Dáil, despite not being present in the chamber.

Deputy Dooley stepped out to take a phone call during Dáil voting and claimed his colleague, Limerick TD Niall Collins voted on his behalf, thinking he was nearby.

An investigation’s now been launched by the Ceann Comhairle.

Speaking at a commemoration ceremony in Co. Kildare earlier , Fianna Fail Micheál Martin leader says what happened wasn’t acceptable and he spoke to both TD’s about it this morning.

He has asked both Deputies involved to step down temporarily from their positions on the party’s frontbench.
