The Environment Minister has ruled out reintroducing water charges.

An OECD report has recommended the Government considers bringing in fees to meet environmental targets.

That’s one of 43 actions suggested by the report which reviewed Ireland’s environmental performance over the last decade.

It points out a decline in the quality of water at rivers and lakes, and calls for more investment in the sector.

However both Eamon Ryan and Taoiseach Micheal Martin have ruled the prospect of reintroducing water charges.

A plan to bring in water charges in 2014 was abandoned following huge public backlash all over the country.
