While we're set for minus temperatures early next week.

It'll be one for the hot water bottle this weekend it seems, with the weather set to turn cold and unsettled over the weekend.

Met Eireann is forecasting a mixed bag with Sub-zero temperatures, frost, rain, strong winds, sleet and snow are all expected.

Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel says the sleet and snow that's forecast will hit Atlantic coastal counties on Sunday.

This weekend marks the start of the National Football and Hurling Leagues, with 33 inter-county matches nationwide.

The pick of the matches is a repeat of last year's All Ireland Football Final between Dublin and Kerry at Croke Park, but thankfully the weather looks set to stay good on Saturday.

''On Saturday we will see pretty decent for sport,'' Mr Nolan said.

''It's through Saturday night, probably not until midnight that we'll start to see the first bands of rain come across the country.

''Followed by a pretty cold and showery day on Sunday.''

Looking ahead to early next week then, Monday and Tuesday could see lows as low as minus two.

While mid-week current indications suggest it will turn less cold but will remain unsettled with spells of wet and windy weather.

Good times...
