iRadio in the Morning with Aidan and Oonagh caught up with the great sporting champ Bernard Dunne who is working as a career coach with 'Indeed'.

Indeed, who are a proud partner of Team Ireland for the Tokyo Olympics work in support of future and current Irish athletes, have developed an innovative programme along with the Olympic Federation of Ireland and Irish boxing legend Bernard Dunne (high performance director of the Irish Athletic Boxing Association) called ‘Indeed Career Coach’, the aim of which is to encourage athletes to consider what path they might take post their sporting career, in addition to having a wider audience of younger people trying to navigate the world of all things career related via their indeedcareercoach.ie website!

Aidan and Oonagh chatted to Bernard about how he re-skilled and went back to college and through a lot of hard graft, has become the high performance director of the Irish Athletic Boxing Association.

About the 'Indeed' Career Coaching Program

The programme developed with Bernard Dunne will provide athletes, current and retired, with the career tools and support needed to plan for a professional career beyond sport.

Due to the unpredictable nature of sport, which has been emphasised during the COVID 19 pandemic, retirement, or simply a world beyond sport, can prove to be a very challenging and stressful process. A topic that is often swept under the rug or simply not discussed. Athletes often find the transition to the ‘real world’ very challenging, particularly with limited supports to help them navigate this life change, and it can lead to feelings of depression, anxiety and uncertainty. Due to the pandemic, it is now, more than ever, that athletes and the wider public need to consider how to pivot their career, and consider their transferable skills in order to find employment, part of what the programme aims to do.
