Boris Johnson has been taken into intensive care in hospital.

The decision was made after the British Prime Minister's condition worsened since being admitted to hospital for COVID-19.

In a statement, Downing Street says he's been moved as a precaution, in case he needs a ventilator.

The No 10 statement read: "The prime minister has been under the care of doctors at St Thomas' Hospital, in London, after being admitted with persistent symptoms of coronavirus.

"Over the course of this afternoon, the condition of the prime minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the intensive care unit at the hospital."

Britain's Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has been asked to deputise for him where necessary.

Earlier today he tweeted that he was in "good spirits"
