There's currently Republic and 47 people receiving ICU treatment.

The Taoiseach says intensive care units in Ireland could be at capacity within days.

There are currently 1,800 confirmed cases of Covid 19 in the Republic and 47 people receiving ICU treatment.

Leo Varadkar says an "unprecedented effort" is ongoing by the health service to find extra capacity and more ventilators.

He's concerned ICU units will come under increasing pressure as more people are diagnosed with coronavirus.

''As things stand we have empty beds in our ICU's, which is unusual in Ireland usually our ICU's are full,'' he said today.

''At the moment we have spare capacity in our ICU's but the way things are heading would indicate that our ICU's will be at capacity within a few days.

''That's already the case across Europe, it looks like it may happen here, so we need to plan for that.''
