The Government still plans for the Leaving Cert to go ahead in late July.

That's despite saying schools won't re-open until September or October.

However, the Government has suggested classes for Leaving Cert students could happen if social distancing measures can be observed.

Fianna Fail want the Leaving Cert to be cancelled, students given their first CAO preference and college capacity expanded on a once off basis.

The party's Education spokesperson Thomas Byrne says there is still no certainty for sixth year students and the prospect of exams is causing too much stress.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education say it hopes to bring students into school for two weeks before the exams start on July 29th.

Health Minister Simon Harris says plans will now be made on how to facilitate classes for Leaving Cert students.
