Councillors in Manchester have officially voted to make Ariana Grande an honorary citizen of Manchester.

Family members of some of the victims also attended the city's town hall this morning when the motion was passed at a special meeting.

Ariana has been praised for her organising of the Manchester One Love concert which raised money for the vistims and their families, following a bombing at one of her concert's in May, which left 22 people dead. Nearly 3 million pounds was raised.

She also returned to Manchester shortly after the terror attack, visiting her injured fans in hospital.

According to the Guardian, Sir Richard Leese, who first put forward the motion,  described Ariana as “a young American woman for whom it would have been understandable if she never wanted to see this place again”.

He continued to say “But no - instead she, as an artist, a performer, was determined that she would not perform again until she had returned to Manchester to perform,” he said.

“In doing so, she brought comfort to thousands, she raised millions for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund and became the first patron of that fund. And that’s why I propose that Ariana Grande is made the first honorary citizen of the city of Manchester.”

Only last week she paid tribute to the youngest victim at a concert in Argentina- it would have been her 9th birthday.

At the moment there are no plans in place to award Ariana with her citizenship in person.
