Rap legend Coolio played the first date of his Irish tour in Galway last night.

The Gangsta's Paradise star performed to a sold-out Róisín Dubh.

The 55 year old is headed for Kildare tonight, where he'll play an intimate gig at Upstairs at JRB's in Newbridge.

His other Irish dates include The Bowery in Rathmines, Dublin on October 12th, The Arc in Cork on October 13th, and the Skylite Room in Warrenpoint on October 14th.

Coolio took over the world's rap scene in 1995 with his Grammy Award-winning song Gangsta's Paradise, which featured in the movie Dangerous Minds.

With over 17 million records sold worldwide, his music has featured in several major motion pictures including Space Jam and Clueless.

He also composed the theme song for hit TV show, Kenan and Kel.

Speaking to iRadio, Coolio revealed that he'd love to see Kenan and Kel reunite and confirmed that he'd write a new theme tune:

"Absolutely I would but that's not going to happen. They're in different places in their lives right now. Somebody interviewed them and they talked about it, and they pretty much said it would never happen. I would love that though. What we need is a new Kenan and Kel."

The rapper, who released a New York Times bestselling cookbook in 2009, is currently working on a new cookbook.

He told Garry and Fionnuala what he likes to cook to impress guests:

"The first thing I make for the appetiser, I make a fried green tomato Caprese salad; then from there I go with the oven baked mac and cheese, and then after that I come with the oven roasted steak; maybe a 12 hour rib eye, nice and tender, you know with the garlic and onions. Along with that, you'd have a nice piece of crusty French bread with the mozzarella and sharp cheddar cheese mixed with butter."
