The latest single from the pop sensation gives us a masterclass on how to get over an ex.

"New Rules" is a metaphor for girl-power, with Dua previously explaining to Billboard that "Your friends are the rules, they are the ones that are preventing you from making a mistake with this guy.”

She also said “It’s the breakup song that I wish I had when I was breaking up with someone. … This is me taking charge.”

So, what are the rules?

  1. Don't pick up the phone, you know he's only calling 'cause he's drunk and alone
  2. Don't let him in, you have to kick him out again
  3.  Don't be his friend, you know you're gonna wake up in his bed in the morning, and if you're under him you ain't getting over him

Pretty solid advice.

Here's just some of the comments on the video on Youtube, which has over 60 million views.

i absolutely love this! it's really refreshing to see women standing together, helping and empowering each other instead of all the constant competition, hatred or jealousy among women that media presents as normal or even natural THANKS DUA LIPA. WE ARE ALL GORGEOUS AND I LOVE US. GIRLS POWER
Rule 1: Listen to New Rules. Rule 2: Watch the video. Rule 3: Get it stuck in your freakin head!

Furthermore, the music video behind the single is equally empowering and aesthetically stunning, perfectly choreographed.

And, as if this track couldn't get any better, wait until you hear the anthemic and addictive beat drop!
