"I think it's important for men to speak out and not try and bottle anything up."

Olly Murs has revealed he went to a therapist after he experienced anxiety following a high-profile mistake on The X Factor.

The popstar, who co-hosted the show in 2015, accidentally announced a contestant had been kicked off before it actually happened.

Olly said the blunder knocked his confidence and he began to suffer anxiety during live TV performances.

Speaking to iRadio, he said:

"It really affected me, just with the media, and gave me a lot of anxiety and worries, especially when I was doing live TV after that incident."

"It wasn't until I went into promo for my next album, for 24 Hrs, and I started to sing songs on live TV and I was a bit like, 'This doesn't feel right. Why am I overthinking what I'm doing? Why am I worrying about me making a mistake?' And it all sort of stemmed from that situation that I had on X Factor.

The 34 year old said he found going to therapy "really positive":

"It was nice to go and see someone and talk to them and understand that, and get to the bottom of why I was reacting the way I was."

"It was great, it was really positive, and I needed that. I think that's what mental health is all about."

"I think it's important for men to speak out and not try and bottle anything up, and I'm not worried about talking about it, because I think it was something that I needed to do and I'm happy that I done it."

Olly recently announced a UK and Ireland tour for next summer.

The singer will play Dublin’s 3Arena on May 13th and The SSE Arena in Belfast on May 14th.
