But there is hope for the weekend!

Met Éireann says wintry showers and thunderstorms are likely in parts this week, as adverse weather conditions continue in the wake of Storm Jorge.

The national forecaster has warned of long spells of sleet and snow in northern parts, with temperatures dropping to between zero and one degree.

While it'll even drop as low as -4C with sharp and severe frost in inland areas tomorrow night (Tuesday).

Joanna Donnelly from Met Éireann said the cold snap will last for a number of days.

''This week is looking like it's going to be cold especially on Tuesday night and Wednesday night,'' she said.

''And the showers will continue too, mostly across the western half of the country but at times getting further east too.''

There is some hope on the horizon however...

According to current indications, a southerly wind will bring a warm front through, bringing outbreaks of rain for a time Friday night, but also a rise in temperatures for the weekend.

That'd be a welcome relief after the barrage of storms we've faced already in 2020.
