Things are looking fairly decent.

After a period of pretty grim weather and storms around the country, it appears we might be getting a reprieve for Christmas eve and the big day itself.

According to the latest Met Éireann forecast, high pressure building towards Ireland will lead to an increased likelihood of “dry, chilly and settled” weather for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We'll take it.

Although the national forecaster has said that there remains a bit of uncertainty in regards to the forecast given we're still five days out.

In the meantime we can expect temperatures hovering around freezing tonight (Friday).

The weekend weather looks fairly largely dry in most areas with clear spells with the potential of some rain in the southwest spreading across Munster and south Leinster and temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees overnight.

There'll be bright spells and showers on Sunday, with maximum temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees and lows of 3 to 6 degrees with a risk of isolated frost patches.

While Monday is looking ''mainly dry with sunny spells and just a few showers. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees''.
