Daily Covid case numbers will no longer be published from today onwards

No daily Covid figures will be published from today onwards, ending a two-year practice.

The Department of Health says case numbers will be updated regularly on the coronavirus hub instead.

It comes as the number of Covid patients in the hospital dropped to 379 yesterday.

That's compared to nearly 1,400 at the start of the month.

The Department of Health published its last set of daily Covid figures yesterday.

There were another 980 positive cases of Covid-19 confirmed by PCR testing.

While a further 1,020 people had registered a positive antigen test through the HSE portal.

We are still being urged to follow public health advice, with practices like hand hygiene and cough etiquette here to stay.

However, Donegal GP Ciarán Ó Fearraigh says he's not busy with coronavirus patients anymore.

"Obviously it still is very much part and parcel of everyday general practice because we encounter respiratory illnesses all the time," Dr Ó Fearraigh said.

"In the most part, people are telling us they are contracting covid but they're managing well with it. We're dealing with a very small number of patients who are actually sick with covid," he added.
