Podcast of Aidan and Oonagh's Crumlin Hospital Special

As many of us prepare for a happy festive period at home with our loved ones, the story isn't the same for everyone.

For children who are battling illness and stuck in a hospital bed, Christmas can be a lonely and uncertain time. However, every single child deserves a happy Christmas, and thanks to the amazing work of the staff at Crumlin Children's Hospital that is made possible.

Aidan and Oonagh in the Morning brought the show live from the heart of Crumlin Children's Hospital this morning and met some of the phenomenal doctors, nurses, parents, families and children who keep the show on the road.

Over the morning, Aidan and Oonagh chatted with singer Aimée about the incredible year she’s had, her new EP coming out in 2020 and her own sister who needed treatment in Crumlin as a kid. Aimée also performed her own version of “Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas".

The guys were also joined by little Ruby and her mum Yvonne. They spoke about how Ruby overcame a brain tumor when she was only two years old. We also learnt that Ruby loves hip hop dancing and wants to be an astronaut or a teacher when she grows up.

Meanwhile, 12 year-old Jake Newman talked to Aidan and Oonagh too about his love for GAA and Man United. His Nana told us about how Jake is being treated for an autoimmune disease and how she helps visit him during his treatments.

We were also joined by the inspirational Aidan from Co Waterford. The 16 year old spoke bravely about his Crohn’s treatment and his love of sport while his mum sat very proudly beside him.

Director of Nursing at Crumlin, Tracey, told us all about how staff look after over 200 children in care at the hospital and how rewarding her job is. She also played Grab A Grand on the show and nabbed the €1,000 which she then donated to CMRF Crumlin charity.
