Snow day, anyone?

There's heavy snowfall in some parts of the country this evening.

Wintry showers are affecting parts of the west and northwest today. Ireland West Airport Knock say that some of their flights have been impacted as their team work to clear the runway there. Here's what it's like at the airport:

Meanwhile, AA Roadwatch say some roads in Galway are also impacted:

Met Éireann has warned there'll be widespread wintry showers this evening with some hail and thunder. There'll also be falls of snow in some areas with a risk of ice and tricky road conditions.

Here's their full forecast from the national forecaster:

Tonight

There'll be widespread wintry showers early tonight with the continued risk of hail and thunder and further falls of snow in places. The showers will become isolated in eastern counties later in the night but further wintry falls are expected across the western half of the country. It's set to be cold and frosty with a risk of ice and some lying snow and minimum temperatures of -2 degrees.

Tuesday

Tuesday will start cold and frosty with icy stretches on untreated surfaces and some lying snow. There'll be a mix of sunshine and scattered wintry showers, those showers will be frequent over the western half of the country with a risk of hail and thunder. Highest temperatures of 4 degrees while on Tuesday night, temperatures could dip back down to zero degrees.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, there'll be showery rain for a time, mostly through the northern and northeastern parts of the country, with mostly dry but cloudy conditions elsewhere. Temperatures will be between 7 and 9 degrees and it'll be mainly cloudy overnight keeping temperatures at around 3 or 4 degrees.

Thursday

On Thursday, rain will move from the southwest to the northeast during the morning, clearing quickly to showers, with drier weather already establishing itself in the afternoon. Temperatures in the north will still be on the cold side but there'll be a recovery to slightly higher temperatures in Munster and south Leinster. It'll be mostly dry overnight although there's a risk of rain along western and northwestern areas.
