There's an ice warning in place for Connacht and Leinster

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow ice warning for Connacht and Leinster.

The forecaster says temperatures are expected to fall to as low as -4 degrees tonight, with the coldest temperatures around dawn. It'll then stay below freezing until mid-morning on Saturday. The warning is valid from 6pm this evening until 11am on Saturday.

If you're making plans for the weekend, here's how the forecast is looking:

Friday

It'll be cold and clear tonight with a widespread sharp to severe frost and icy surfaces. Lowest temperatures of -4 degrees while there'll be some patches of mist and fog in places.

Saturday

The frost and fog will clear on Saturday to leave a dry, calm and mostly sunny day. It'll be a very cold start though and temperatures will remain below freezing until mid-morning. It'll then stay cold through the day with afternoon temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees.

Sunday

There'll be a sharp to severe frost to start the day, but overall the day will be dry and sunny with just light breezes and highs of 9 degrees,.

Monday

The frost will clear on Monday to give a mostly dry day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. It'll be less cold too, with highs of 10 degrees.
