The backend of Storm Barra is upon us.

More windy weather's in store today, after Storm Barra wreaked havoc during the week.

Two yellow wind warnings will take effect later for a number of counties in the west, southwest and northwest.

From 3pm today there's a yellow wind warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

Gusts of up to 110 kilometres per hour are expected along coasts and on higher ground.

It's also possible there'll be some fallen trees and power outages.

The warning will stay in place for these counties until 11pm.

And a second yellow wind alert will also take effect at 3pm this afternoon for Clare and Kerry which will last until 8pm.

Some trees are also expected to fall with power expected to be out in those counties too, due to gusts reaching up to 100 kilometres per hour.

Early this week, Storm Barra hit coasts across the country, meaning schools were closed in a number of counties.

Here's the general forecast from Met Éireann for today:

"Mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain, mainly over the northern half of the country this morning.

Southwesterly winds will increase fresh to strong and gusty through the morning, reaching near gale to gale force for a time this afternoon and evening in western and northwestern coastal counties with some severe gusts possible.

Outbreaks of rain will continue through the day but there will be some brighter spells too.

Rain will become more persistent from the west again this evening. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees."
