Lyra's Brand New Music Video For 'Mother'

Cork singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist LYRA releases her  new video for her single ‘Mother’, a tribute  to LYRA’s Mum’s powerful words of encouragement to forget your insecurities and rise above the haters.

The video is an intimate and emotional performance from LYRA accompanied simply by a piano, it illustrates LYRA’s raw talent and her outstanding vocal range. Shot by Dan Massie and produced by Mike Downs who have worked with Ed Sheeran, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, and Raye among many others. “Dan really expressed my dark side in setting the scene, but kept the simplicity to keep the attention on the live performance” explains Lyra, ‘I knew the colours and mood I wanted  to go for and it was Dans expertise that brought it all to life’. The location for the video was a disused old schoolhouse in London, which had a film set of a morgue attached to it. All the spookier!

“Writing this one with Phil Cook (Birdy, Ellie Goulding), was special - it came together in one day. I feel very at ease in the studio with him - there I am, wailing away - not afraid of singing a wild note, and he’s really open and encouraging of those wilder things - it really helps me shape the song,” explains LYRA.

“The song is about growing up and wrestling with who I was - something I think we all go through at one point or another in this crazy thing called life! Growing up I was teased about my appearance quite a bit and then, as I began to sing, also my voice. It definitely got me down - especially about the singing because I felt like I’d found my passion but was ashamed of doing it.

The release of ‘Mother’, chosen by Virgin Media for their new campaign in Ireland, follows on from recent singles ‘Falling’ and ‘Never Let Go’ and earlier this year LYRA performed ‘Falling’ live on the Ireland’s Got Talent Final.

Live LYRA is also on the rise, having performed at the second stage at Electric Picnic this year, LYRA has also sold-out recent headline shows in London and Dublin and supported the likes of Jess GlynneDermot Kennedy and James Bay. LYRA  will play her biggest Irish headline yet at The Academy in Dublin March 5th next year.

LYRA also recently caught the attention of Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral by Mindy Kaling who featured LYRA’s cover of ‘I Only Want To Be With You’ on the OST alongside Emeli Sande, Nina Nesbitt, Bishop Briggs, Naughty Boy, etc.
