Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 20s was killed in a single car crash in Co.Longford.

It happened at Clonfin yesterday morning.

Emergency services were called to the road between Granard and Balinalee at Clonfin, shortly after 10.40 am when a car was discovered partially submerged in water.

It’s believed the car struck a metal fence prior to entering the water.

The Garda Water Unit conducted a search operation at the crash site, where they recovered the body of a 20-year-old male.

The scene has been preserved for examination, and the road is currently closed with local diversions in place.

The body of the man has been taken to the morgue at Mullingar Hospital and the Coroner has been notified.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and for any motorist who was driving on the route around the time and may have dash-cam footage to make it available to them.
