Status red warnings issued to 5 counties as Storm Debi arrives

Status Red wind warnings have been issued to five counties, as Storm Debi is set to batter the country overnight.

Orange wind warnings, as well as yellow wind and rain warnings will also be in effect overnight.

Met Éireann is warning that Storm Debi will bring a "potential danger to life".

Clare, East Galway and South Roscommon will be under the highest level warning from 3 to 5am, while Offaly and Westmeath will be under the red warning from 5am to 7am.

Meanwhile, 19 counties will be under a status Orange wind warning from 2am to 10am tomorrow, while a status Yellow wind and rain warning is in place across the country up to 3pm tomorrow.

The National Emergency Co-ordination Group (NECG) are urging schools in red and orange counties to stay closed until 10am Monday, to allow emergency services to clear roads from debris.

It is up to school management if they should close for the full day.
