Fine Gael has dropped Maria Bailey as a candidate for the next general election. The swing-gate TD's fate was sealed at a meeting at the party's headquarters last night.
In a statement, Deputy Bailey says she had hoped to rebuild her reputation following the controversy.
She said she was told by the Taoiseach in July that the matter was closed after she was sacked as chair of the Oireachtas Housing Committee.
Deputy Bailey said she had hoped to be able to move on and rebuild her reputation, after the personal injuries case she took against the Dean Hotel after falling off a swing at the property.
But she said anonymous sources have tried to reignite the scandal at every turn.
Maria Bailey's statement by saying she was a proud member of Fine Gael and will continue as a public representative
Attention will now turn to whether Maria Bailey will consider a run as an Independent candidate.
However it's not the content of statement that's drawn the most attention:
It's the use of the Comic Sans font that has become the subject of huge reaction on twitter.
Users have pointed out it's a font most commonly found on invitations to children's birthday parties and perhaps not the most appropriate choice for a political matter such as this.
Last time I seen that font was on an invite to child’s birthday party.

Comic sans was a bold choice but undoubtedly fitting
