It'll take less than three minutes for food to be delivered.
UCD will be the first place in the country where fast-food will be delivered by drones.
The unmanned aircrafts are expected to make more than 100 deliveries a day as part of a trial run that will begin next month. After initial tests the service will be opened up to 30,000 people with plans to expand even further after that.
It means Dublin will become the first city in Europe to offer fast food deliveries by drone. Manna, the company behind the technology, says people will be able to order Camile Thai and Ben and Jerrys through the Just Eat app as usual.
Alan Hicks, Chief Technology Officer at Manna, says it will take less than 3 minutes for the food to be delivered to the UCD campus. He explains how it'll work:
"The food is carried inside the drone. The drone will then fly to its destination where the customer is."
"It descends down to approximately ten metres above the ground and then the delivery is lowered to the customer on a biodegradable thread".
The trial will begin at UCD late next month.
