Lonely Planet Have Named Galway One Of The Best Cities In The World

Galway has been named as one of the top cities in the world to visit.

The city has taken fourth spot in Lonely Planet's Best In Travel 2020 guide - an annual collection of the best destinations, journeys and experiences.

Lonely Planet describes Galway as "brilliantly bohemian" and arguably Ireland’s "most engaging city."

Best in Travel 2020 is Lonely Planet’s 15th annual collection of the world’s hottest destinations and journeys for the year ahead. This edition places particular emphasis on the best sustainable travel experiences for 2020 — ensuring travellers will have a positive impact wherever they choose to go.

CEO of Galway 2020 Patricia Philbin said: “It’s official – Galway is the place to be in 2020! Right across the city and county momentum is building and preparations are well underway. Which other cities made the top 5?

Salzburg is named the number one city, while Washington DC comes in second, followed by Cairo in third. The city of Bonn in Germany made 5th place.
