Status yellow wind warning issued for five counties in the west

It's going to be windy in the west!

A status yellow wind warning has been issued for five counties along the west coast.

Met Éireann notes that southwest winds, veering westerly, will hit mean speeds of 50 - 65 kilometres per hour with gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour on Friday night and throughout Saturday morning.

The warning is valid from today (Friday 31 January) at 5pm until Saturday at noon.

Meanwhile, status yellow gale and small craft warnings are in effect, with southwest winds expected to reach gale force on Friday afternoon and evening on coasts from Mizen Head to Slyne Head to Malin Head, continuing overnight.
