An Army Bomb disposal team has removed a suspect package from an An Post Depot in Limerick for further examination.

The parcel which was discovered just after 6.00am appears to be identical to a number of letters sent earlier this month to London and Glasgow.

The IRA claimed responsibility for those letter bombs.

Gardaí are continuing to liaise with the British Authorities on their investigation and the package has now been sent for forensic and ballistic examination.

More than 100 people had to be removed from the An Post Depot on the Dock Road in Limerick following the discovery this morning.

Limerick journalist David Raleigh has been at the scene.

"I must stress we'll have to put a caveat on this...I'm told by a reliable source in An Post that the envelope which was flagged by staff here this morning as suspicious does seem to bear a resemblance to a number of explosive packages posted in letters in the UK. Apparently there is writing on the envelope which was flagged this morning in the depot in Limerick," he said.
