It's hard to believe the most successful slasher film of all time is 22 years old.
Wes Craven's Scream tells the story of a group of horror movie-loving teenagers who are killed off one-by-one by a masked killer.
The 1996 film was a huge hit and spawned three successful sequels.
Here's five tidbits of trivia.
1. It was originally called Scary Movie
Screenwriter Kevin Williamson thought Scary Movie was the perfect title for his screenplay.
However, Dimension Films didn't think it reflected the blend of horror and satire in the film.
Weirdly enough, they renamed it Scream because studio boss Bob Weinstein liked the Michael Jackson song of the same name.
Dimension Films decided to keep the Scary Movie title and gave it to the Wayans Brothers for their horror-spoof franchise in 2000.
2. Drew Barrymore was initially cast in a different role
Drew Barrymore plays Casey Becker who's brutally murdered by Ghostface in the opening scene.
Her harrowing performance and shocking death makes that first scene unforgettable.
However, the actress was originally going to play the lead role of Sidney Prescott, which later went to Neve Campbell.
But scheduling conflicts prevented her from accepting it and she later switched to the smaller role of Casey.
3. An actor named Roger L. Jackson voiced Ghostface
The sinister voice of Ghostface belongs to Roger L. Jackson, who also voices Mojo Jojo on Powerpuff Girls.
Jackson performed his lines down the phone in real time but director Wes Craven never let the other actors meet him, which kept up an illusion of mystery and made the actors' performances more convincing.
4. Producers thought the Ghostface mask wasn't scary enough
The iconic mask is synonmous with the Scream franchise.
However, some producers hated it as they thought it was "goofy" and wanted to halt production until something more suitable was found.
Bob Weinstein filmed footage with several different mask options and decided Ghostface was the most appropriate.
The mask is reportedly the best-selling Halloween costume in America.
5. The franchise documented Courtney Cox and David Arquette's relationship
The former couple starred in all four Scream movies.
Courtney has said, "Each Scream represents a huge turning point in my life."
The pair met on the set of the first film and by the time they shot Scream 2, they were a couple off-screen.
Just before the Scream 3 shoot, they got married but when Scream 4 was shooting in 2010, they had split up.
