Parents are being warned about a recent cyberbullying game.

The "Momo challenge" is popping up on social media platforms and is said to target both children and vulnerable people.

"Momo" reportedly makes contact with the person through social media and asks the person to perform a number of dangerous tasks, including self-harm.

In a Facebook post, The PSNI say the character "tells your child to communicate with them via WhatsApp and a number of other widely used apps".

""Momo" then tells your child to self harm or she will put a curse on them".

Their advice is "to supervise the games your kids play and be extremely mindful of the videos they are watching on YouTube".

"Ensure that the devices they have access to are restricted to age suitable content", they added.

RTE News report that Gardaí have issued a similar statement. They've also appealed for children and vulnerable people’s online activity to be supervised.
