Are we really surprised?

A study of 2,000 adults found people spend 24 minutes and 24 seconds deciding on TV shows during an average week.

It also found that we spend on average 24 minutes 93 seconds choosing films.

This all adds up to 55 days across an adult lifetime just choosing what to watch on TV.

And a further 57 days agreeing on a movie.

A third of people admitted they often struggle to decide because there is too much choice.

Poor us!!

The study was commissioned by NOW, and also delved into what helps us decide what to watch.

Here are the main factors:

  • The genre (41 per cent).
  • The actors (37 per cent)
  • The length of a film (28 per cent) or series (23 per cent).

We can vouch for that, a 3 hour movie after 9pm? We're too old for that craic...

watch

Funnily enough, the study found that 49 per cent of people said at times they've taken so long to decide that they didn't watch anything at all.

Which we admit has happened to us too...

The study also found females are more likely to be the decision makers when choosing what to watch on TV - that's according to 67 per cent of participants.

And, on average, 2 household disagreements happen per month over what to watch.

It seems people really do love a re-watch - with 38 per cent saying they'd re-watch a show or film if they wanted to feel nostalgic, while 29 per cent would do so as a "refresher" ahead of the next season.

So, what seemed to be the most re-watched TV shows??

Only Fools and Horses, Gavin & Stacey and Game of Thrones were among the most popular ones.
