89% of pet owners admit their pet has more social media followers than them

A study of 2,000 cat and dog owners found that one in four pet owners have set up a social media account for their animal.

Of those with pet social media accounts, 35% set it up for their beloved animals to show them off, according to swns digital.

While 34% wanted to enjoy the positive reactions shared over their pets online.

These pets have an average of 925 followers, with 89% of owners admitting this is more than they have on their own social media accounts.

However, 42% of adults admitted to filling their own feeds with pictures of their pets.

The research by OnePoll was commissioned by pet insurer ManyPets.

38% of those surveyed also admit to having more pet pictures on their phones than of their friends.

And two-thirds would go as far as to say they consider their pet to be one of their best friends.

And the love doesn't stop there, as 34% of all pet owners throwing them a birthday bash at one time or another.

Nearly half of these respondents have admitted to spending more on their dogs and cats than they do on some of their loved ones.

48% said they have cancelled their plans to spend more time with their furry friend.
