After days of speculation, the news that certain Twitter staff was expecting, was confirmed in public last night.
140 jobs are to go at Twitter after Leo Varadkar's Enterprise department was notified of the cuts by the social media company yesterday.
The Tanaiste says his thoughts are with the Irish Twitter staff whose redundancies were finally confirmed.
Speaking at his party's Ard Fheis in Athlone last night Leo Varadkar said the Twitter App got in touch with the Department of Enterprise yesterday.
Twitter employs 500 people here - but the workforce is being streamlined to cut costs.
The company is also demanding increased productivity from the remaining staff - which could see further departures in the coming months.
Twitter is understood to be losing close to four million euros per day.
Analysts believe the company over-hired staff during the Covid pandemic.

Elon Musk has posted a poll on Twitter asking users to vote on whether former US President Donald Trump, who was banned from the app, should be reinstated.
Before he took over - Mr. Musk said he would reverse what he called the "foolish" ban on Mr. Trump - if he took charge of the company.
In May Mr. Musk said that permanent bans should be "extremely rare".
