Active Consent classes are being rolled out in Further Education and Training colleges across the country.

The Further and Higher Education Minister Simon Harris is welcoming the news they're being brought in.

He says staff and students are entitled to a safe environment to study and work free from harassment or violence:

'We need to live in a society where there is a zero tolerance approach to domestic, sexual, and gender based violence, our education system has a big role to play in that'.

Minister Harris has also said there's been a rise in students in higher education taking part in consent classes:

'We saw over twenty two thousand students taking consent classes and that's a fifteen percent increase over the course of the last year'.

'We are now going to extend such classes into further education and training centers in another very positive step forward to ensuring the next generation has the tools and information they need when it comes to active consent'.
