The death toll has now exceeded 4,000 with tens of thousands more displaced.

With whole neighbourhoods destroyed, the Turkish government says more than 300-thousand people are sheltering in dormitories and universities.

A DIY team of locals and emergency workers in Osmaniye in Turkey say they know there are people under the rubble but are unable to reach them.

Sky's John Sparks says rescue efforts are hampered by a lack of specialist equipment.

'It is an emergency situation but it's not being done by emergency workers.  People here from the fire department are doing the best that they can, they don't have the search and rescue personnel with their specialist equipment.'
