The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission is warning Ulster Bank and KBC customers that they are running out of time to switch their bank.

The Commission has found that more than half have yet to make the move.

Eight in ten plan to open a new account because their provider is shutting up shop in Ireland.

Darragh Cassidy, who is Head of Communications at bonkers.ie, is also encouraging people to switch soon:

"Time is ticking and you absolutely want to ensure that you are not left in the situation where you have no bank account, where you don't have access to money and where direct debit and standing orders are bouncing.

"Time is of the essence and my advice is to look at switching now, look at choosing a new provider as soon as possible."
